3rd pass and found the weak link...
Tonight was my second and third pass on this new build and we are at 1/8 mile getting it dialed in and found the 'weak link' real quick...lol
U-Joint - yep - the U-joint took a crap off the line - nothing else - hollow U-joint not so good for my power...lol
Got there early and the first pass was the second car down the track (the first one oiled down the track) Blew the tires off right out f the gate and went to the wall. Lifted and straightened it back out and got back on it for a modest 6.58 @ 112.
Second pass, we decide to take it easy as the track has been closed for the last 3 weeks of rain and not a lot of rubber down. I leave the line at a mere 5 lbs of boost and ramp to 16 and netted a 5.9 @ 118 mph - a new PB. (had a 1.41 60' leaving at 5 lbs.)
Looks like some rubber is down now so we set it up to leave the line at 12 lbs and ramp it up to 20 psi. The car leaves like a raped ape and instantly shatters the U joint. The 60' on the pass was a 1.30!!! (breaking the U joint right off the line) Everyone at the track was amazed at the difference in launching and I'm convinced the 60' would have been in the 1.28-1.29 range had the u joint not sheered off. With the difference in tune and launch, I think that pass was an easy 5.60
This was only the 3rd time this car has been down the track under WOT so we are still in testing phase with a lot more to go. The U joint was a hollow piece and just not up to the task of the kind of launches I am doing. Going to get a solid billet U-Joint tomorrow and will also need to get a safety loop for the rear as well. I only had the safety loop in the front of the DS and not a great idea when you twist a U joint as I carried the DS down the track...lol
Anyway, no other issues at all and after 3 attempts of running the car, I am very pleased with the results. Lot's of videos of the 2 passes so I'm sure some will find there way up on the boards tomorrow. The car is VIOLENT off the line and carries the front wheels 60'!
Be back next week and going to keep it right where it is for now with a new solid U-joint and expect to see 5.50-5.60's next week. Still have more to go after that up to 30 lbs!!
A couple more testing trips to irwindale and then the killer will be ready to tear up the 1320' and see how close to 7 we can get!!
Can't wait to get back to the track - I'm still just figuring it all out at this point and it's only going to get faster. I honestly believe this 3V may be capable of a 7 second pass under the right conditions...
The Chevykiller is slowly getting unleashed!
