Default Coolant leak : ( (Pics)

When i got off work yesterday i drove across the street to the dealership to see if they had any 09 GT's in stock and i just had a few questions for them.

anyway they didnt have what i wanted so i walked.

i drove home and when i got home i noticed steam coming out of my grille.
my first thought was, oh its just the rain water hitting the cats or something because it was raining

but i popped the hood just to check and sure enough i heard a hissing and i knew my cooling system was still under pressure because it was hot so i looked round the resivuor and the hoses and the thermostat.

i couldnt see anything leaking then i pulled off my air intake and looked closer round the thermostat and saw a fine stream of coolant spewing out the housing, not where the upper housing meets the lower housing but on a seal of the lower housing, the plastic had warped!

anyway, i pulled her in the garage and checked my res. again and it was almost dry so i guess i got home just in time.

i pulled off the throttle body and began unbolting the housing.

i called ford to order the part but i they weren't picking up the phone, i was on hold for over an hour so i gave up.

ill order the housing tomorrow at work. i am a mechanic so i get discounts on parts and same day delivery to the shop : )

just sucked that this happened Saturday evening but oh well. dad let me drive the GT to my other job at Chili's today

and the pictures as promised!

See the warpage along the seal:

This is where it mounts sorry for crappy lighting

i pulled out my CAI for more room and i also cleaned the throttle body and the coolant resivuor

well i didnt get any feedback by the looks of things lol.

oh well. in-case you were wondering, i got the new housing on monday after school but i had work at my other job that night so it only gave me 45 mins to put her back together.

i got the housing on and filled the block with coolant, put the hoses back on and squeezed the upper hose to get out some air when i heard a hissing. the o ring on the sensor was leaking. so i had to take the old minivan to work.

on tuesdays i work as a mechanic so i got the new o rings from ford and had her back together on my lunch break.

she runs great.

becasue i took off the throttle body and turned the car ignition to ON (i didnt start her) so i could get her out of park to push her into the bay, i had a message saying failsafe mode. i ignored it and finished bolting up everything and i started her up and i had the check engine light on. i scanned it and it was giving me codes about the TPS voltage being low (Throttle position sensor) but i think it was just because it had been unplugged.

anyway, i cleared the code and let the car heat up so i could get all the air out of it. took her for a spin and she runs great.

i have my baby back again lol

I've heard this is a common weak point on the 4.0L. It hasn't happened to me yet but I'm aware of it anyway. Sounds like an easy fix though so that's good to hear.
