Well Dave at Shaftmasters just settled the deal with me. I should have my direct bolt in 3.5" shaft next week.

your answer is that every car is different and most likely the Roush drop will NOT affect your pinion angle....at least not enough for you to have to get it adjusted with a UCA etc. Taco bill has a write up on this in the stickies above in this section.....you should be fine but have a trusted "rear end specialist" available that knows the S197 and your fine!

Yeah thanks. I happened to find Taco Bills article just before I placed my order which helped me in my final decision.

Wow... every time I come to this forum, I find something else I HAVE to buy.

My next mod will be gears (thanks to the great info on the boards, I know where I'm going with those)... next will probably be the driveshaft.

Does anyone have before/after acceleration numbers? Shaving off 20lbs of rotating mass sure should make a measurable difference.

Supposedly some people have seen up to 2/10th improvement in ET after just this mod.

Shaftmasters also claims freeing up 14HP peak and 16 ft/lb of torque.

Does having a taller gear affect this aswell? I want a ds and 4.10's. Is this a good combo?

affect what? if your talking about ET then yes it should speed you up a bit. If your talking about HP and TQ, No, I think it actually lowers those numbers overall a little. But you feel more power lower in the rpm band.

I would recommend doing the gears and shaft at the same time because they'll have everything torn apart anyway. My shop only charged me like $15 to put the driveshaft on because I was doing the gears anyway.

I just bought a 3.5" direct bolt on driveshaft from shaftmasters. I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. Their website says 18.5lbs (all of the mustang's do, regardless of size..), but I read on another forum is was more like 16.6. I've seen alot of weights for the stock driveshaft, ranging from 38-48 pounds...
