Default Hood liner

Has anyone removed their hood liner? What impact might removal have on the hood's paint? Would it get hot enough to damage the paint? Curious if anyone has removed theirs and if so, how long ago and have there been any unpleasant side effects.

Doesn't the hood liner act as a fire retardant, smothering an engine fire?

What would be the advantage of removing it?

Just asking, not trying to be an *** or anything.

Totally appearance related question. It's hard to keep that thing clean for shows so I was thinking about removing it. I know there is a guy around that makes a replacement out of aircraft material but was thinking if it wouldn't hurt anything (i.e. the paint on the hood) I might just take it off.

Instead of removing it, why not get it air-brushed? I saw this one at a local show last year;

well, my hood does not have it. since my hoods aftermarket it didnt come with it. but my hood has an extra 2 inches of clearance over a stock hood so maybe enough heat disapates over those two inches not to matter, but ive had my hood for over a year and no peeling paint or anything, again maybe its cause my hoods 2 inches higher though.

WOW! I never thought about having the whole thing airbrushed. That's definately something different. I've never seen one done like before.
