Passenger Airbag
unfortunately (or maybe not) airbags are not perfect. i came upon a collision a while back involving a brand new Mercury Marquis and a crusty old toyota wagon. the merc t-bones the toyota that pulled out in front of it. the toyota was knock about 100 feet down the road and the mercs front cap was pushed almost to the firewall. neither airbag in the merc deployed. the driver was totally unscathed though.
I only paid attention to if it turned off when I put my daughters booster seat in the front seat, and when I did the airbag light went on that it had been shut off.
Sometimes when my backpack is there it goes on, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm glad you guys clarified this issue. I thouhgt there was something wrong with the passenger side airbag when the off light went on, but funny enough my laptop was on the seat. One less thing to worry about.
