Default Header Install

Every where I have checked I read to install headers on an S197 you have to support the engine and take out the engine mount. My question is do you have to do this with the short tupe headers. Is it possible to do it? Is the romoval of engine mount done just to make things easier.

If there is a tread already about this sorry but I didnt find it.

It's necessary to gain access to one of the bottom header bolts which is tucked behind the mount on the block. I can't remember which side off the top of my head though. I've got my stock exhaust off right now and I'm waiting for the hardware kit to arrive to install my new Kooks LT's.

It's not that difficult, just time consuming.

This would also be a good time to replace the crappy factory motor mounts with stiffer ones. I had the Steeda HD Motor Mounts done with the header install at no real increase in labor (maybe 1/2 hour additional).

The new motor mounts seemed to tighten up the front end a bit and shifting at redline is better now. A great mod IMO.

Thats what I figured. I want to install the ford racing short tube headers and their intake. I dont really have a clrear answer on if the calibration tool that comes with it will compensate for the headers and a set of high flow cat's.

I installed MAC ceramic shorty headers on my stang just about a month ago and MAC's installation instructions do not say to remove the motor mounts. However, I don't see how it is possible to install the headers without doing so and ended up removing the mounts. This made it much easier! Yes, it is time consuming but a very doable job as I did mine with a set of ramps laying on my back.
