Lifting the s197 (jack)

Got a link to that text book? Just because someone's too lazy to jack up a car the way it's supposed to be doesn't make jacking it up like Backwoods Bubba the right way to do it. That's just plain dumb and asking for chassis and driveline problems.

Oh wow. I guess that proves it. That link merely says it's "possible" to lift the whole rear end at once by the differential housing. It is also possible to lift the rear end by jamming a forklift under the gas tank! That in no way makes it the correct way to do it. And the last time I looked under a Mustang, it didn't come stock with a DANA rear end. That is designed to handle those kinds of loads. A stock rear end is NOT.
And 2 years of "autotech" training isn't jack. Especially not these days. Bet 21 months of that was teaching you how to use a computer for diagnostics. I'll take my ~27 years experience working on cars over your 2 years of "autotech" training any day. LOL!

People get away with doing things, all the time, that aren't kosher with what the manual says. Is there a risk? Absolutely.
Those of you who can't stand the idea of jacking the car up by a differential better hope you got a brand new car and not a used one. If you did odds are someone has done it at one point or another along the line. Not that it matters because you'll almost certainly never know.
