I'd keep the stock shifter in unless you NEED on for some type of racing. Aftermarket shifters do not fit well, transfer transmission noise into the cabin, develop rattles,...etc. The MGW is supposed to be a really nice piece, but I'd rather have the money.
I dont think to many people have these issues. For me personally, switching out the stock shifter to the tri-ax made a night and day difference. The car is much more enjoyable to drive now, and I dont have any of the issues you mentioned. Not saying it isnt possible, I just dont think it is the norm.
