Question More HP Less Gas?

Hey everyone! I just bought my 1st Mustang! I have always wanted one and finally was able to get it, got a 2008 GT California Special Black on Black! It is amazing, I love everything about it but like many people I just can't seem to have to much power or speed so I'm already looking at mods for it. A big concern is that I want to try to get the most power while keeping decent gas milage since this is my main vehicle. I'm currently getting 25/26 mpg highway and averaging about 24 mpg per tank. The first couple of mods in mind are a cold air intake, headers and exhaust (like magnaflow) with tuner. Next maybe an underdrive pulley kit, cams, and gear kit. I'm not sure what I should be looking at or what kind of power upgrades I could do while keeping my mpg around 20? If those of you who have different power upgrades could let me know what you did and how your gas milage is I would love to hear about your rides! It seems like everyone is always talking about super chargers and turbos, etc but almost never seem to never mention what kind of gas milage they get with all that power. Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine just had an article about a guy's mustang making over 800hp at the wheels and he still gets over 20 mpg! Thank you for everyone's thoughts, ideas, info and help!

No mods will improve fuel economy to any great degree. Some claim maybe 1-2 MOG increase with e CAI & tune but IMO, I don't believe it. There are way too many variables that affect fuel economy and unless you kept strict records over long periods of time, you really have no inkling. And most mods result in having a bit of a heavier foot anyway so any savings, IF they were real, would be eaten up by the joy of feeling the performance.

Besides, and as I've said many time before, I bought my Stang for the wood it gives me, NOT for economy.

With the mods you mentioned (assuming you also include a good tune), you can probably pick up about 30-35 RWHP with all of that coming from the CAI & tune and headers. You'll get NO performance gains doing any exhaust work from the H-pipe back.

Here is a link to another thread on our forum where I've been letting everybody know what kind of MPG I'm getting on non ethanol gas. I talk about my mods there:
