Default Asked this a long time ago but wanted to know who uses 93 octane

Someone in my previous post; sometime last year mentioned that you could possibly gain 20 lbs of torque by constantly filling your Mustang with 93 Octane.

Even if it's just 10 lbs do you guys notice a substantial boost?

Thinking of switching to 93 Octane for good just wondering how much 10 lbs of torque can make a difference.

That is a tall claim. I would not take it to heart unless you saw some actual dyno numbers. The owner's manual does say this though:

Octane recommendations (4.6L V8 engine)
Your vehicle will run normally on 87 octane regular fuel without
damaging the engine, but premium fuel with an octane rating of 91
(R+M)/2 or higher is recommended for best overall performance.
For Shelby GT500 octane requirements, see the Shelby GT500
Supplement.

so a tune with a higher octane like 91 or 95 will make it perform better?

Yes. Tune will help more than octane though, much more I would think, not talking from experience though.

No there's no noticeable increase by changing octanes, in fact you burn more fuel using 93 octane and a stock tune. You have to add a custom tune to take full advantage of 93 octane. The stock ecu is designed to run on 87 octane without pinging....My brenspeed 93 octane custom tune gave me 15hp and improved my gas mileage....

If you put in race fuel, it will smell awsome out the pipes!

i refuse to believe that a mustang gt running 87 octane will perform the same as one running 91 or 93 octane.

the same vehicle with tunes in the ecu to run both is going to take advantage of the 91/93 octane and is going to perform better. the manual itself says it... and everything about gasoline motors and octane ratings say it.
