If you bought it brand new there will be cats, but you might not be able to see them if you just lay on the ground and try to look. They will be just after the manifolds and will have O2 sensors in them.

no need to look under the car to know if you have cats, start it, get out and stand by the tail pipes. does it smell like a motorcycle or a snowmobile or something? you know the smell im getting at

You cant see them from under the car, unless you are up under the engine compartment.
Open the hood look behind the manifolds.
