Many times it would be nice if when I it the trunk button, it would unlatch and lift fully open. I tried a search and could not find anything, maybe didn't use the correct wording if it has been discussed. At any rate, has anyone come up with a mod that does this?

The easiest thing to make this happen would be to install stronger pneumatic actuators, but i dont know if that is possible or available.

 

The problem is that pneumatic rods have very little motive force at the bottom 10% of their travel. This is by design, so that stuff doesn't go flying, and it is less difficult to close. The solution would be to find a rod that is somehow shorter, yet has more travel length. I don't think this is possible. Perhaps you could install an actual spring at a point where the lid gets close to the body, so that the spring propels the trunk out of that 10% zone and the pneumatic rod takes over?

 

My 1970 Olds used two torque rods across the width of the trunk. When you opened the trunk, it opened all the way. I don't know if this would be practical for the S197--just throwing out a thought.

 

Hire a midget to hang out in your trunk. Tell him whenever he heard the trunk pop to push the lid all the way open.

 

Yea, I suppose I could get a trunk monkey...LOL.
