Default Unlocking an Xcal2?

hi guys!

i'm selling my xcal2, but i'm not sure whether or not it's unlocked. i read in a member's post that reloading the stock tune leaves the tuner unlocked and capable of being reprogrammed. can anyone verify this? or does the tuner need to be sent back to the manufacturer, etc. to be unlocked?

thanks!

plug it in to the car and look for something saying device info on the tuner and i think it says the status there. Im pretty sure that your right and returning the car back to stock leaves the tuner unlocked, but im not to educated on the subject.

For some reason I highly doubt that since everyone seems to charge around $150 per tuner to unlock them. If it was that simple, no one would pay that...

Yes. Return your car to stock and it unlocks the tuner. The locked means it is VIN locked to a specific vehicle.

yes, but restoring the car to stock means that i can no longer use the tunes that i paid for from brenspeed. i no longer need them because i'm selling my car, but most folks want to use the tuner, upload a tune, and then sell the device. that's why even though it's simple, not many people do it.

When I bought my SCT Xcal2 for my diesel F-250, they took my computers strategy, not the VIN. I don't believe they're VIN specific. They're strategy specificm, at least on the diesels. And I don't know about Brenspeeds SCT Xcal2, but DJ Performance's allowed me to change back to stock as many times as I wanted without deleting any of the 3 tunes in the truck.

If that unit you have is in fact unlocked, I will buy it from you

ok, the unit is now unlocked (though i believe i already have a buyer). here's how it happened:
1. reloaded stock tune
2. connected the device to my computer; status read "5 changes left; stat = stock"
3. downloaded liveload software from sct website
4. installed program and clicked the "unlock" option in liveload
5. closed program, checked device status - it now reads, "4 changes left; stat = unused"

so, if one's willing to return one's car to stock, the sct xcal2 can indeed be unlocked completely from the comfort of home with very little effort!

The 5 unlocks means it can be used with 5 different VIN numbers ... after that SCT has to reset it for $150. I have a tuner at SCT right now getting unlocked since the stock tune was never reloaded back into the original car ... it's a long story but well worth the $150 to me ...

Ok, now this just threw me for a loop.

I have an SCT XCal2 that I use on my 04 Ford F-250 diesel. Its the only truck its ever been used on. So that means I can use that same Xcal2 on 4 more vehicles, meaning I don't technically have to buy another Xcal?

It has 3 programs on it...I'd like to have one tune for the mustang and two tunes for my truck (street, towing and then stock, right now it has the 1st 2 and "looney" on it plus "return to stock")
