Do I NEED hood pins?
I just had a Cervini's '67 hood installed on my daily driver 06 GT. I was wondering if I REALLY need hood pins? I know Cervini's makes top quality products, but can I trust the stock hood latch to hold down such a light hood? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
do you need them, no, do i recommend them, yes....most all aftermarket hoods seem to have more hood shake at speeds. So this would stop the shake for sure. You can see how much your hood shakes before making the commitment though
Having just taken delivery of a Ram Air hood (#1171) from Cervini's... I spoke with "Jay" & asked this very question. He said "you don't NEED the hood pins... some people just like the look" He also explained that the S197 grille design inherently causes a build-up of air pressure under the hood at high speeds (75+ mph) therefore our rubber bumpers MUST be correctly adjusted to assure a stable hood.
To correctly adjust the rubber bumpers he said "Adjust the center two bumpers (at either side of the latch) such that the hood doesn't close when dropped from about 10 inches - then screw them back in about 1/4 to 1/2 turn" - the outer two bumpers (near the fenders) are for adjusting the hood to be level with the fenders.
Once your rubber bumpers are correctly set - you should have no problems.

my stock hood never had any float, but after i got my trufiber, it shook at any speeds above 65. so on the freeway i never wanted to really go past 80 cause it shook ALOT. so many people told me i dont need them, but they personally made me feel safer and secure, so whether i needed them or not it made me feel better. i would reccommend them, and i think many would agree that they look awsome. now the hood sits still as a stone.
Well yeah, some pins are twist locks that don't even come with lanyards. It's a matter of taste. I'd recommend them but buy them at a reasonable price instead of the $100 Shelby ones, for example. I'm even considering some for myself, even though I don't technically need them
