Default What to pay?

Please forgive my newbie intrusion, but what is the current going price on new 05' GT Convertibles? List? Over? Under? I looked at one today that a guy cancelled his order. I'd like to decide tonight to buy or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd be really surprised if you found one for under MSRP, at least by much. If you can find a good dealer, you'll probably pay sticker. At a bad dealer (see: most of them), the rape charge can go anywhere from $2k - $15k. A lot of that may be regional as well. Bottom line, if you don't like the deal, walk away.

Good luck!!

Thanks for your input. I wasn't really thinking of a new Mustang (I've had something else on order for almost five months), but I saw a black with red interior sitting out in front of a dealership today and it looked great. I'd rather a manual trans, but I don't really mind the auto. A salesman hit me at 2k over, then dropped to 1k over within a couple minutes. I think I can get it for MSRP if I move pretty quickly. Again, thanks for your help.

At MSRP is a good deal in this market, especially on Stangs with more options... good luck!

Well Chris, in most (not all) areas, there is a large disparity between V6s and GTs. For instance, here V6s are a dime-a-dozen (even verts), and one can be had for a very reasonable deal. GTs however are much harder to come by, and not to disparage our V6 brethren, often more sought after. Hence, many dealers tack on "the rape charge".

Incidentally, I got that phrase from the Blue Oval Forums, a mostly Ford employee website After probably calling close to a thousand dealers across many states trying to find the car I wanted at a reasonable price, "the rape charge" seemed rather fitting and stuck in my head.

In south florida you can spit without hitting a V6, vert or not... I have exactly FIVE GTs on the road, and one of them is mine. LOL, a lot of people down here bitch and moan about gas economy no place to speed or some whiny crap like that. DEMOCRATS! LOL, j/k. Bottom line, if you can get a GT for sticker, you made a deal. Instead of trying to get a big discount on the car, which you wont, do what I did... squeeze them on the back end. Ask for discounts on your extended warranty and gap insurance. Buy a service plan. Most importantly, if you have a good credit rating, bluff the dealer, tell them your credit union will give 5%, and watch the dealership scramble to match it. That's how I did mine. I virtually all of it, and got in at 470 a month with all the little extras, warranty service plan, gap, so on and so forth...
