Default What kind of oil to use?

I just had my engine rebuild and now i have to do an oil change. what kind of oil do i use 5w30 no synthetic or 5w20 non syn? please help

if there was a MF hall of fame, that post would be there! lol

mustangexpert, from what i've seen you don't go to synthetic until
after the first 500 miles. after that you can use it.

5w-30 is typical for rebuilt engines.

honestly only the engine builder can recommend the
appropriate oil. i called FRPP to find out what weight
oil i should run and they told me 5w-30.

+1 on the guy that did the rebuild. But I think a synthetic blend in whatever weight he recommends would be fine.

It's very important to use conventional oil until the rings are seated.

Only your engine builder will know what the clearances were when he put the motor together. Clearances will help determine viscosity needed. That and personal opinion. Oil threads are notorious for causing discord within any car group. I haven't exactly figured out why either.
