Yeah, it's insane the oil we consume. And I suppose it's encouraging to think of electric cars in terms of the Tesla. Who knows where that kind of potential will go.
But nothing will EVER replace the sound of a V8 ICE, IMO.
Electric cars will never replace internal combustion engines until the oil bureaucrats are without any more oil to sell and profit from. There was already a successful electric car in the 90's. Does anyone remember the Saturn EV1? GM would only lease them, not sell. When the lease was up, GM recalled them all and would NOT allow the lessors to purchase them. Most of them were destroyed, but a few were disabled and put in storage/museums. The car worked so well it scared the oil industry out of their socks. Don't believe me, watch the movie "Who killed the electric car".
We will have oil thrown at us until it's all gone, PERIOD! They don't call it "Black Gold" for nothing.
Big Deal ! I shift all f!!king day Too . Its nice to have an auto and does not mean it is NOT a muscle car . This debate is too old to be relevant and beyond passe .

Four reasons why I refuse to buy an auto
1. More HP/TQ loss in the driveline vs. a manual
2. Lower MPG due to torque converter vs. a manual
3. Stock vs. Stock, the auto will not take as much abuse as the manual
4. You don't feel like you are a part of the machine if you can't control the shifts 100% of the time. The fun factor is decreased significantly and if I wanted automatic shifting comfort I would drive the 2004 Lincoln Town Car sitting outside rather than my 2008 Mustang GT.

Not a lot of people know that. Most people think gas-saving vehicles are brand new innovations. Those were available, but gas was so cheap nobody cared.
