Default So my dealer just called me said he just got in a couple of new 5.0s.

Jeez way down here in Texas already?

I was thinking about trading at the end of the model year but then I had kinda veered towards keeping mine because I love the body style so much.

Don't have a down payment ready yet and not even sure I want to pay so much more monthly as I know I would have to. Plus I KNOW that markup will be on these babies at first and end of the model year deals are always so much better.
What's more.. I just paid nearly 1k for a couple of new tires and a new ball joint.
Paid for it YESTERDAY haha.

I was thinking about saving up some cash and getting this:
http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com...m-fr4-s197.htm

to get me around the same power as the new 5.0, and get me there without having to go F.I. and risk the engine.

Now I am tempted to go test drive one just for kicks but at the same time I don't want to get crazy fever if the drive impresses me so much.

It's almost always going to be cheaper to keep a paid for car and build on it than going out and trading in for the latest and greatest.

I hate car payments and I hate not owning my car. But that's me and I guess I'm in the minority.

If you want to keep the car then make the decision and stop looking at other cars. I kinda went through this a few months ago when I thought about selling mine for a used terminator. Once I decided not to do it I stopped looking at those cars and browsing the marketplace for them. Made things easier on me.

I hear you Riptide.

I think I just got caught up in all the hype of it BEING LEGENDARY and the hype of it going to be a collector.
The guys at Ford (including my uncle's lot) are telling me this is going to be the last big motor we see in the GT.

He says the next revamp and from then on... will be smaller engines making more HP.

But hey.. if that is the case... there will still be plenty of 5.0's a few years down the road if I want to pick one up right?

I also hear you about not even looking.
That does make it easier.
I am so curious though as to how it drives as a whole.
If I do go in today I will have to absolutely KNOW without a doubt that this is just a drive for fun and NOTHING else.

Oh yea P.S. Riptide...
see my edit on above post about building the engine up...
and without boost. I am by no means a mechanic so having F.I. on this car may prove even more risky than with most people.
But maybe this kit from Ford would be my best bet and pay to have it installed.

The install yes... that is why I would pay to have it done..
but the maintaining and attention and such I would think no.
No worry about engine going boom while I drive it either correct?

In theory yes that kit should be safer than a blower.

If it were me. I'd spend the extra on a whipple. Run the whipple tune until you eventually put a built shortblock in the car. Then turn up the boost a few psi and proceed to crap your pants.

The odds of this car being a collector's car are zero if you ask me. The days of legendary cars are probably over IMHO. Right now Ford and the dealers are looking for excuses to extract a bunch of extra money out of suckers with more money than sense that HAVE to be the first to own one. Mark my words in 6 months, these things will be a dime a dozen and selling at or below MSRP with rebates. The economy still sucks, and that won't change any time soon...

As I've seen Riptide say a few times, and something that I wholeheartedly agree with, if I were in the market for a new Mustang, this is a perfect time to grab up 2 year old GT500 garage queen for ~32k.

You guys are making me feel better over and over.

And making me feel smarter for holding on to my car.
I love the look of it so much better.
I just did'nt want to miss out on owning a "LEGEND".

Like you said also Mudflap...in a year I can get that 5.0 for a HELL of alot less
if I decide to. Instead of running out now because of the talk.

The whipple sounds nice. I just know next to nothing about boost or anything like that so it does scare me a tad to run boost on a car when I have read so many blown engine stories.

I thought that the setup I posted would be virtually 100% safe.
What would not be safe about it?

P.S. I would still like to go test drive one just for kicks but I dunno... don't wanna get all worked up again.
