Default Whipple Driving Impressions

My Whipple HO S/C was installed last week and finished May 5th 2010. The kit is intercooled; I'm running the 3.625 pulley, 47lb/hr injectors, GT500 dual fuel pumps (that were wired incorectly from factory) Brisk plugs and an SCT tune.

I also have Corsa Exhaust and Bassani X pipe with high flow cats. The best way to describe the added power is that 2nd gear now feels like 1st gear, 3rd gear now feels like 2nd and so on...I can hear the whine above 3k rpm, although its a little tough with the noise from the exhaust.

Tomorrow I have my dyno appointment at The Mustang Shop in Calgary AB. Its a Mustang Dyno, and I hope to safely acheive 400rwhp.

Also so long as the weather holds up (its supposed to be 21degrees celsius, 70 farenheit for those down south) and sunny, I will be running the car at Race City to do the 1/4mile. My previous PB was 14.22 @ 100.49mph ( the track has an altitude of 3500feet) with cold air intake, SCt, bassani x and corsa sports with 275/40/19 hankooks. I now have my Whipple and 285/35/19 Goodyear Eagle F1's (2010 GT500 take offs). I'm hoping for 12.70 or less.

I will update the thread tomorrow and Saturday providing that all goes well with my dyno time and the track!

Overall I'm very happy with my Whipple so far.

A whipple HO, even a gen1, should be above 400whp with the stock whipple tune. You should be that far already.

This kit is brand new, so I suspect its a Gen 2. I relocated the IAT and have a custom tune on my SCT right now. It will be tweaked on the dyno tomorrow. The reason I have conservative numbers in mind is that it's on a Mustang Dyno rather then a Dynojet or other. My local Mustang dyno vs Dynojet showed a 14% lower number on the mustang dyno on a friends car.

What is the problem with the "stock" IAT location the kit comes with and why must a person relocate the thing? Why does whipple make you do this for a 6000$ kit?

My understanding is this with regards to the IAT.

Whipple leaves the IAT before the blower. After the air is compressed its obvioulsy hotter, whipple must account for this with their tune. However it appears the most tuners prefer an IAT after the blower for more accurate temps. Having the IAT relocated allows for a safer tune. Just following what my dyno guy says, but I have heard lots of complaints over this apparent oversight.

good question.
i still have the stock location for the IAT sensor and it runs fine.
the relocation kit is inexpensive, but i agree whipple should include this in their kit.

Actual parts cost was under $50. Its easy to do when the whipple intake manifold is off the car. Its only a pain if its already installed. You could even drill and install the IAT sensor and not hook it up or wire it until later.

I called Ford RAcing and they quoted 12 hours for install. I work at a Ford Dealer and luckily I have a $55 an hour rate, so $660 plus tax. Customer pay retail work is 134$ an hour!

I called a couple of performance shops just to see what it would cost retail and it varied from about $1000-$1500 Canadian dollars.
