Default oil change question

I changed my own oil and put 7 quarts in. The manual says 6.2. Should I drain some of it or is it OK?

You want to lube the internal components, not blow out the oil pump or drown the crank lol

If you had only put 6.5 qts in on a true 6.2 qt system, I'd say leave it alone. But 7 full quarts is excessive, so I'd drain some. Since it's rather difficult to estimate what 3/4 qt looks like in a drain pan, plan on repeatedly going through a sequence of letting a little out, tightening the drain plug and checking the level. Obviously, you'll want to do this with the engine cold.

You might be able to filter the "wasted" oil through something like a coffee filter and use it later.

What year and engine? I thought all of the S197 4.6L engines called for 6.0 qts on the button, although you might need to top off a tad if you're oil filter has a bit more capacity thatn the OE Motorcraft filter.

Definitely drain some.
