I didn't use any. Providing you do everything else right, you really don't need it but as I stated earlier, it won't hurt.
My side scoops, quarter window louvers and rear window louvers are all held by 3M tape and have been installed (by me) for almost 3 years and 30,000 miles and are as solid as the day after I installed them.

Yep, its pretty amazing stuff when applied correctly like is everything else.
Use 3M 4298 Adhesion Promoter (eBay) and its like working with regular tape.
Now that gorrilla snot is a real PITA to use correctly.....

Ditto. But if I recall, that was recommended in the A-H instructions. I suspect that it's because there's a lot of strain on the rear window louver attachment points due to the aerodynamics of the louvers as opposed to the qtr louvers and side scoops. I've had my Stang up to 120-130 MPH on quite a few occasions and half expected the rear window to rip out the first few times.

well i just put on cervinis rear bumper valence, it comes with the side exhaust kit. it uses that 1/2" tape all the way around. at some points along the bumper it is only holding on the lower half of the tape. what should i do... should i put some silicon around it. this is the second time i have attempted to attach this piece, this time looks to have gone better, but it sure could be better. i follow all the instructions used 91% alcohol, went slow and had 2 friends helping me hold it in place. i really want this damn thing to hold. last time i came out in the morning to find it hanging.

The 3M adhesive is not water soluable.
The only thing the silicone will do is attract
dirt like a MuthaForker and look bad over time.

Preperation is the key to getting it to stick. If you don't follow the instructions to the letter, you're screwed. Too many people use 70% isopropyl alcohol which is a no-no. So is not abiding by the surface temperature range and not allowing the tape to cure by NOT MOVING THE VEHICLE for 24 hours after tape application. Although not required, an adhesive promoter may help.
As far as removal, patience as stated is the key. Allowing the tape and adhesive to soak in a good remover and some gentle elbow grease and you're good to go.
