you don't have to reload the tune to reset the adaptive learning. just unhook the neg side of the battery for 20 minutes. This will reset the computer and adaptive learning. Basically the adaptive learning doesn't reduce your horsepower or tq, but it does take the "crispness" out of the car. I usually will either flash the tune, or unhook the battery every few weeks.

Someone should do a dyno after a fresh tune, and then another after a few months and see if it changes the power curve at all.

The popular email tunes disable the adaptive learning at WOT (open loop), so theoretically the car will have the same power each and every time you peg the throttle with an aftermarket tune. The stock tune learns in closed loop (normal driving) as well as open loop, which over time can make your WOT seem sluggish.

There are some great posts on here somewhere from Doug from AM (formerly BamaChips) as well as a Brenspeed rep regarding their changes to the adaptive learning. It basically works out that disabling the adaptive learning in closed loop is a really bad idea due to different elevations, driving conditions, etc.

Reloading the tune and/or disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes will reset the adaptive learning and brings the computer back to the tune baseline.

Adaptive learning is a fancy term for fuel trims. In closed loop mode your PCM takes readings from the front 02 sensor and adjusts the amount of fuel at a given RPM to make it within tolerance of the required air/fuel ratio. Normally +/- 5% is the max range to center it around 14.6 (that's what it was for the LS1 cars).

In open loop mode (WOT) your PCM doesn't take readings from the 02 sensors at all, but uses preset settings from the PCM to determine air/fuel ratio.

Your WOT settings will not change and is only affected by your surrounding air pressure (how high above sea level you are) and humidity, etc. Your part throttle normal driving is always correcting itself to maintain a ratio of 14.6/1 ratio.

Hope this helps understand the topic better.
