I've used a bottle jack when I needed to jack a wheel off the ground. Otherwise, I use RhinoRamps whenever I do an oil change or any other under-vehicle work. The compact spare is pretty typical. They recommend it no more than 60 miles at 50 MPH, if I recall, but it will take more miles if you're that desperate.
But it's always good to know where your spare and jack are and how to use the jack instead of waiting until it's dark and cold and on your way to get some tail.

I've had to use it on the side of the road once, and even with it being a low-profile jack, had a helluva time getting it under the side near the front when a front tire shredded.
But yes, I keep it in the car at all times, along with some kind of spare. Although, when going to the track, I'll often remove the tire and use the tires I'm hauling in the back as spares if I need one.
FYI, the GT 17x5 stock spare (alum. rim) is very light compared to a V6 17x4 heavy steel rim.
