car shows
A minimum of car wash is definitely required before the show (unless you have a rat rod or race car I suppose). Bring some quick detailer with you, and a chair to sit in once you've finished walking around (depending on how big the show is).

One big cruise/show coming up is the Hotrod Power Tour. Starts next week on the 5th of June. I will be going with about 6 other cars from my area. We will be going for the Long Haul. Anyone else gonna try and make any venues it stops at?
I've been doing the car show thing for many years now and I'll give you some good tips.
First thing to do is to go check out the shows "before" you go to show your car for the first time. This will give you a good idea of how others are showing their cars and what the judges are looking for.
Take note of which cars are winning and why.
Find out what "rules" the judges are using if any.
Many shows put cars into class's so you will need to know "what class your car will be in".
Most local shows are not judge by people who know what they are looking at or even judged at all. A lot go by whats called "popular vote". This is where everyone attending the show get to vote on which car they like the most. This is why it is important to do your homework and find out whats up.
Most importantly "have fun" you can meet a lot of great people at car shows so don't be afraid to talk to the other owners. Be per paired to answer questions about your car, other owners and show goers will want to know all kinds of stuff about your ride.
The one bad thing about car shows that you have to keep in mind is not everyone has the same respect for your car or others cars. "Some" Show goers will touch your car, lean on, rub on it, sit in it or even let their kids scratch it by mistake. So you need to keep an eye on your car and the cars around you to prevent a oops from happening. This does not mean you can't leave your car and go look around, just ask the other owners next to you if they would not mind keeping an eye out so you can go take a look around.
I show my car every weekend during the show season which in the south runs a long time. I show in 4 different states currently and I can tell you no 2 shows are the same but I have a great time at all of them.

Thanks for all the great information. I'm in Maryland so I'll check out some of the area shows before I make the plunge. I'll be at Mustang week this year also, so I can get some tips there also.
Mine is similar to this, has a cooler in the center but I have never tried using ice in it, I only use the freeze packs. It's soft so you can fold it flat, and has velcro on the bottom so it doesn't slide around.
I will be entering car shows once I return from my deployment. Not to really win but just to hang out with some guys that share the same interests that you do, get some advice and just let me people ask you about your car....
