Default Problem with a broken rod

so I started having some lower engine noise with the stang so i took it to ford yesterday and this morning they told me i had a chip or somthing on a rod. they are still looking up prices for me. I had a 3yr 36k warranty on it but now im at 48k miles. Has anyone had this problem? Is there still a way i can have ford pay for the repairs?

Thanks

Actually i believe it is a bearing noise problem with a rod. i have all my reciepts from all my oil changes from jiffy lube, i read that unregular oil changes can cause this sort of thing.

unless you can prove that they did something wrong that led to the part failing I think you're gonna be SOL still try to get them to pay for it though, showing that you did all of the regular maintenance can help your case.

Unfortunately, you may be out of luck. Perhaps in the past Ford would have stepped up, but in this economy they can't really afford to be 'nice' and cover things that are over 10k outside of the warranty period.

I hope I am wrong though. I was 19 days outside of my warranty, and 30k miles UNDER it, and they refused me, but a lot of that was because of the Saleen/Ford disagreement.

Stock shortblocks are cheap. Look around the forums. $500-$600 is the norm for a used one. A new one from FRPP will cost about $1600 shipped. Add to that the extras required like fasteners and gaskets and you are looking at about $2000 in parts for new, $1000 for used.

also roushclone, sorry to hear about the engine troubles. keep
in mind that the more you can do at home, the more $ you can
save.

I personally know two people who both had rod/bearing issues with their S197's. Both had new engines installed covered under warranty. One I believe was a defective wrist pin issue at ~20k. The other was past his warranty and they replaced it anyway. Not sure if he had an extended warranty...didn't think to ask but he was around 50k when it occurred.

Nice little block right here out of a 2010 for $700 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-...Q5fAccessories
