Default 5.0 NO BIG DEAL!

I just got back from a dealer here in the tampa area and I really have to say the car feels like my 07 gt did in stock form. I told them the truth the steering and the ride was much better than mine probably because mine is 3yrs old vs new, but power wise its no oh my god this is a neck snapping car. The car I drove was a auto and my car is also but I believe not even if it was a stick would I be like here's my keys let me have another car payment only to mod the new 2011 for me the 05-10 gts with mods is good enough with paying almost $40,000 for a new one. I now even will enjoy my car more even if a 5.0 ever lines up with me. Just my 2 cents.

I felt the exact same feeling on the new GT500, but all the stats prove different!

Yes the 5.0 feels MUCH faster now that it has 500 miles on it... I thought my 07 was just as fast the first week or so driving the 5.0.

Once I get my 5.0 in with the 3.73s it will be even faster. The 5.0 IS faster than an 07 gt, even though it may not feel like it.

Well I had to explain it to Paul regarding his Ion and will also explain it to you.
The new 5.0 especially in the auto feels a bit tepid.
But you have to keep a few things in mind.
First, your 07 is it modded? My guess is yes.
Second, your 07 is fully broke in.

You take a fully broke in modded (or not) car against another that's brand new and you right from the get go have a bit of unfair comparisons.

Then, lets keep another thing in perspective. The new 5.0 motor is much smoother and more rev happy than the 4.6L.
Jump into an old 5.0 from the late 80's and early 90's, and below 3000 rpm the thing will probably feel much stronger than the new 5.0

Jump into any car with an engine that revs smoothly and makes most of it's power up top and it will feel weak down low and even into the midrange.
Take the new M3. Even vs a stock 335i, the M3 feels week below 4000 rpms, where even a stock 335i will pin you back with a surge just off idle.

Don't mistake the surge of power from low end torque as speed. Diesel's give off that feeling as well.
Heck I drove an e60 M5 with the V10 back in 2005 and thought the same as you did.
Hmmm, this thing doesn't feel that fast.
Keep the revs above 6000 rpms though and especially above 100 mph and the thing comes to life.

Wait a bit, drive a fully broken in 2011 GT (with about 5000 miles on it, as I believe it takes 4000-5000 miles for an engine to really fully come to life and be broken in) and drive one where you can get on the gas hard and stay above 4000 rpms.

You may still feel like you aren't going that much faster as the engine is quite smooth, but rest assured you'll be going at a quicker pace than an 07 GT, even a lightly modded 07 GT

I've only got about 150 miles on my 5.0 so far, but after trading the '10 in, and driving them back to back, I agree that your butt-meter is broken.

If you take it easy off the line, it's not that noticeable, but wind that baby up, and she goes.

I hate to tell you guys but my 01 trans am had more of a kick in the *** right out of the dealer and the only thing I did was a k&n air filter and when I got rid of it at 7,000 mls it wasted everything that came up to me. especially all the mustangs so believe me its slow!!!

Maybe some of you guys never never drove the 98-02 camaro's and t/a's but you did not not need to break them in or mod them right away because you you right there it had crazy torque and no need to right away start spending money on making faster. So then why the hell does everybody mod these mustangs because they know right from the start they can't keep up only the gt500's are the serious cars from the factory.
