157dB can be a bit caustic sometimes in his replies, however, he is extremely knowledgeable in all things automotive and a valuable asset to this forum IMO.

Decibel - A dB or Decibel is a logarithmic unit of measure of the ratio between two numbers.
When talking about power, 3dB represents a ratio of two to one or a doubling of power.

•Thus, a gain of 10dB would represent a ratio of ten to one for power - so 10 dB be 10 times the power
•A 40dB power gain would be 10,000 times the power.

When I was helping the brother-in-law fix his BMW bike and a spring sent parts flying around we had a good laugh about how the Germans cannot fathom dumb Americans touching their machines w/o following proper procedures w/ proper tools.

These dumb Americans fixed the bike...
