Default Test drove 2011 Mustangs 3.7 & 5.0 auto, 5.0 manual

I going to replace my Wife's 06 Mustang so I've been doing alot of test driving.

1st - Drove the 3.7 auto with 2.73 gears - Very disapointed with the 0-60 but after that you can feel the power kick in. Shifting from 1st to 2nd takes forever! The 3.7 is pretty gutless at low rpms so pop in some 3.73 or 4.10 gears & reprogram the tranny then you'll have a winner.

2nd - Drove the 5.0 manual with 3.73 gears - What a fun car to drive, felt faster than the 2010 Camaro SS manual.

3rd - Drove the 5.0 auto with 3.15 gears (only gears Ford will give you) - Huge disapointment 0-60. Again it took forever to shift from 1 to 2nd. 1hr after I drove the 2011 Mustang 5.0 auto I went & drove a 2011 Camaro SS auto and the Camaro would destroy the Mustang. I don't remember the 2010 Camaro SS auto being as fast.

As nice as the 5.0 manual was my wife wants an auto so it looks like there will be a 2011 Camaro SS/RS in my driveway in the near future.

Thanks for sharing your impressions. This is a comparison test you don't often, if ever, see in the car magazines. Since I prefer an automatic transmission, I guess I should be happy with my 2007 GT.

The Camaro is NOT faster. Especially not after the 5.0 has been tuned so the auto behaves like it should.

Then you're not comparing stock for stock . . .

I got news for you. If one car has to be tuned before it's faster than the other, then it's NOT faster.

I had 4:10's in my 08 Steeda nd now have 3:73's and mine is an auto. Did the swap to get ready for an SC.

But mine is not a new 5.0.

I gotta believe you can change the gears on the new auto too.

Nothing wrong with your choice in cars, the camaro is a sick ride. However, with that said, the auto l99, unless in the hands of one of their premier drivers, is on par with the 2010 gt through the 1/4 (obviously the camaro has more topend, but to the end of third its pretty much a drivers race with the mustangs 3.73 gear option). The l99, apparently as i've never driven it, has the most lethargic transmission between the l99, ls3, and auto/manual stang.

Either or, good choice and post pics on whatever car you end up with.
