Electrical Issue - Water Leak, Junction Box, Radio
#11
So far, I have been fortunate not to have experienced the water leak. Perhaps it's because I don't drive the car in the rain and I keep a car cover on it.
Right now it does sit outside because of our garage being so full. I suppose the car cover is helping keep the water out or at least directing it else where.

So is it wrong for me to feel as if I should be pursuing legal recourse? My own problem was substantial and I've seen so many other people with the same issue, isn't this grounds for a recall if the entire electronic system is destroyed in a vast percentage of vehicles as a result of a faulty design resulting in a water leak? Is there an independant organization that tracks these sorts of things? I'm assuming the dealer and Ford Corporate wouldn't be too quick to bring this sort of thing to attention.

It is true that if a recall is made it is because the car is considered a hazard that could/has lead to death.
In the case of the Mustang S197, I don't think there have been any public reports of such an event, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be investigated.
You can try contacting the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)

could be considered a health risk.
People move out of their homes because of it...
The TSB is proof that Ford at least knows of the problem...

So, my Mustang woes continue.
I would really love some input from you guys, I don't know what to do. Let me give a run down of what I have been through.
Mustang GT, 2007 - 19K miles
Experienced Water Leak, Subsequent Electrical Problem
Radio stayed on w/ keys out of ignition and door open - intermittently
Radio turned on at night, repeatedly killed battery
Brought Car to Dealer #1
Dealer "found the problem."
SJB replaced, Ford agreed to pay 3/4 of price.
Cost to me out of pocket - $250+$100 for new battery.
Waited a week for vehicle.
Problem continued... another dead battery.
Dealer said "radio is bad, need to send out for repairs."
Waited 3 days for radio repair. No cost.
Picked up car, problem continued. Dead battery.
Dealer insisted – “you have a bad battery. Bring it in we’ll swap it out”
Dealer swapped battery.
Problem continued.
Complained to Ford corporate who had authorized to pay 3/4 of cost.
They sent me to another dealer and reimbursed me for the $250
Dealer #2
Dealer "found the problem. It was obvious."
Replaced wiring harness to SJB.
Ford agreed to pay 4/3.
Cost to me: $500
Waited 2 weeks without vehicle for parts.
Wrong part delivered, new part ordered.
Waited another week – 3 weeks total.
On day of pick-up was informed new part was $400 more.
Cost to me actually $750 ($250 more than I originally approved)
Drove off lot, noticed traction control button missing.
Brought back to dealer, immediately fixed.
Called back a week later.
Windshield wipers have not been working correctly since car was in their shop.
Aux input on radio doesn’t work.
Original problem with radio remaining on with keys out and door open continues.
Brought back in, waited 3 days for them to call me back.
Dealer said additional cost to fix wipers would be $450.
Of course I won’t pay them for more guesswork.
They can’t confirm intermittent trouble with radio staying on – of course, it’s intermittent!
Ford authorized reimbursement of diagnostic fee to look at the problem they created w/ wipers.
Ford corporate seems unfazed that they reimbursed the Dealer for ¾ of a repair that was misdiagnosed and not fixed.
Ford refuses to authorize any further repair costs.
I am screwed out of $850 to Ford to keep my car in and out of shop for 2 months, do un-needed guesswork repairs, and break my windshield wipers.
Any advice besides a bell-tower and a high powered rifle?

Note to self: Trade Mustang before warranty expires.
Sorry to hear of these problems, sounds awful. Does this really affect the '10 and '11? How could they not fix it in SEVEN model years?

I'd forget the bell-tower and hi powered rifle; a sawed-off shotgun and a leisurly stroll thru the showroom, offices and shop will suffice. Saves you from climbing steps and having to pick them off one at a time.

Dude that is horrible, been there done that on my '91. The fact is gremlins are in the system. Once an electrical problem starts it's hard to stop the cascading failure. The best you can hope for is to sell it to someone who doesn't care about Traction control and wants and aftermarket HU installed.

So this nightmare begs the question...
If I have 28,000 miles on my 2009 and have no water leak at this point, is it likely to begin at some later date, or am I in the clear?
EDIT: Car gets driven daily (even in hard rain) and is parked outside except for at work...
