Default Cleaning drain/filter under hood to prevent leaks

I remember reading some posts about cleaning out a drain or filter in or near the firewall under the hood to prevent clogging and eventual water leak into the car. Apparently it tends to get clogged with leaves and debris from the wiper area.

Can anyone help me find the thread that gave instructions on how to clean this? I have had no luck with the search.

Thank you in advance for any kind assistance.

I cleaned it a few day ago because of leaking under glove box. I had a few cups of water on my carpet. When I opened it I saw so many leaves and debris and even two small cherrys . Water couldn't go thru that drain pipe and was coming thru cabin air filter to the inside of my car.

Remove the black plastic cowl panel under the wipers on the passenger side.

You'll see the cabin air filter. In the cavity down below it, you should see a little black plastic drain hole. Stick a vacuum with a "between the cushions" attachment down there to clean it out.

Also, inspect the grommets that the black plastic panel snaps into. These are the source of the famous passenger side water leak.

Thank you!

Is it necessary to remove the cabin air filter to do this cleaning/vacuming process?

Pictures help a lot also. Greatly appreciated.

FRAM makes good cabin air filters with arm and hammer in them to help deodorize any weird funky smells, lol.

It helps you to put a hand inside and clean leaves and debris.

can i just remove the rubber grommet and leave it out...? seems pointless to leave it in if it just gets clogged?

Thank god for that cabin air filter. We might die breathing outside air. I remember when we would drive with the windows down. You'd have to be stupid to do that these days. That reminds me, I need to buy more of those face mask dust filters for when I walk outside to get into my car.

Cabin air filter... Arm & Hammer to deodorize funky smells... What has this world come to?
