Gas octane needed for a 2011 gt
#11
As stated you can run 87 no problems, and unless your full throttle all times, then there is no need for 91 which is what the 412 hp rating is based on. Daily driving it makes no difference, But on the other hand, I always run premium in my cars, even when not " bagging" them, as its a cleaner fuel, and I notice better MPG on it, so yes it'll cost you a bit more to fill up, but you can go farther on a tank...

If your car is not tuned for 93 91 or 89 but tuned for 87 then you should put 87. If the car has a 87 tune and you put 93 in the tank your car will have more carbon build up. However with the advanced knock sensors in the engine, the car can tell when you have a higher octane in your car. The new mustang will automatically advance the timing in the vehicle to compensate for the excess octane burning cleaner will less carbon build up. Enough for your but dyno? No. I haven't felt the difference. As far as increased mpg... There will be no difference. Theoretically it would get less MPG.

Higher octane does not mean cleaner fuel. In fact, it's the opposite. Higher octane contains additives to prevent detonation(knock, ping). It burns slower, not faster. The benefit from higher octane is being able to use a higher compression without ping. You can also retard timing slightly to prevent ping when using regular gas. The 2010 and 2011 GT's do this automatically. The difference in power is not much. I ran 14.2/98.7mph on 87 octane regular two weeks ago. 87F temp and 1300ft elevation. That's the equivelent of about 13.5 at sea level. The difference in 1/4 mile ET might be -.1 sec with 91 octane. Worth it?
$3.00 per tank times 52 weeks/yr = $156
$156 times 5 years(60mo loan time) = $780
Sounds like real money to me!

I know that in Canada there only allowed to put so many " additives " in the fuel. I have zero knowledge on whats in it,or how it works. I do know that I get better MPG when I run higher octain fuel tho. My car usually reads 8 liters per 100 kms on premium and 9 to 10 liters per on regular ( 87 ) we have 94 octain fuel here as premium, and my car seems to like it a lot...
