Question AXLE RATIO DIFFERENCES

Hello All,
I am still building my GT and I was wondering what are the differences among axle ratio?

I was offered to go with the 3.73, but I do not know what it means in terms of performance improvement, gas mileage and if it is really necessary. What does axle ratio do to the vehicle?

Thank you and soon I will be more knowledgeable in the world of MUSTANG.

Please appreciate any inputs.

3.73 gears i believe will give you worse mileage, but makes your car accelerate faster. It also makes your top end a little less because the gear are smaller, which is why it makes the car faster.

3.55s are good enough for everyday driving, the diff. will be negligable!

Excellent,
I am sure I will not notice the difference for normal driving, so I guess I will save some money and stay with the stock option, since mileage is a a consideration for me.

Thanks

1st, you should determine what your gear ratio is now.

You'll definitely accelerate faster having 3.73:1 or 4.10:1 over a 3.55:1 ratio. Your RPM at highway speed will be higher though resulting in slightly reduced miles per gallon. Totally worth it in my opinion.

he said he is still building it, dont they come real low in the base setup? I say go with the 3.73. Its a very good all around gear and will hold you over from feeling you HAVE to have 4.10s for a while.

Fuel mileage impact is minor, depending on how you're driving. Figure roughly taking about a 1 MPG hit cruising steady highway with 3.73's as opposed to 3.55's and another maybe 1 MPG as opposed to 3.31's. But you're not buying the car for economy so phoeey to THAT.

Quicker off the line with higher ratio and top-end is NOT impacted. You'll reach the cars limit due to the coefficient of friction (drag) before you'll limit out on gear.

The higher the gear ratio, the faster delivery of the torque. Really depends on how you want to drive your stang. Mine is a daily driver and I have 4.10 gear ratio.

Thank you everyone,
The base on the GT Premium (400a package) comes with 3.31 axle ratio, and if you add a 3.55 or a 3.73 the price increases 395US. The problem is not the 395, it is mostly if I will really feel the difference and if the mileage is really a factor from 3.31 to 3.73 since I will not use the car in TRACKS, it will be a daily drive or a weekend drive only.
Thank you
