Because my first gear kept popping back out and wouldn't stay in place. However, now that I drove it for 2 weeks, I can see that it's still crappy. It's not very smooth from 1st to 2nd. It seems like you have to put a bit of force to get it into 2nd and it goes smoothly from 2nd to 3rd. I guess Ford just don't know how to develop a good tranny that doesn't suck. This is especially when it gets cold outside.
I have three words for the shoddiness of the manual tranny:
Made in China.

It's a clunky thing, the Getrag MT82. The Auto tranny, the 6R80, seems to be more silky smooth and best of all, it is made in the US directly by Ford themselves.

All of these Chinese MT82s make considerable noises, clunking noises, when you shift, especially from 1st to 2nd, and also from 2nd to 3rd. The car engine drives out the noises when you are shifting to higher gears, but I am sure they are still there.
To avoid the this clunk, and also hard jolt stresses on the U-joints, I have to ride the clutch in and out. This spares the drivetrain components these hard impulses form the jolts, and also makes for a much smoother ride, but I am sure I will have to replace my clutch soon. I am going to keep an eye on my clutch because of this.

Sorry to hear about those issues. As a good rule of thumb, I never buy the first version of something new. Give the manufacturer at least a year to iron out the bugs. That's why I bought an '06 and not an '05. I won't buy a 2011. If I go the 5.0 route, I'll wait until 2012 or 2013 - who knows, they might redesign the rear by then.

I agree with Trez83..Back in 87 when Ford basicaly remodeled the Mustang, I waited till 89 to buy my GT...Also I also have an 06 for the same reason (for them to get the bugs out). That sure is alot of issues your having though, ( engine, tranmission, interior ) Sorry to hear, and hope you get them resolved.

I'll second this. I got burned on a new model year once and learned my lesson.

This is why I got an older 03 than spend my money on the 2011 GT. I'd rather wait til they work out the kinks of the 11 and maybe buy an 12 or 13 in the future and also keep my 03

Yeah, I knew that. That's why I prefaced my post with "LOL".
But you HAD to know that a few here would LOVE to get into that argument again just for the fun of seeing people get mad (I said, as I bite my tongue.... hehehe).

If you were considering getting a 2011 but didn't want to risk the new model year, wouldn't an 08 or 09 have been next up?
