Curiosity mainly though I've been told it's pretty much standard practice to datalog a blown car when you're having problems or when it's a new setup and you want to check all your values. Supposedly you can check for knock this way.

Most good data-loggers record knock count so you can see how many times your knock sensor was tripped. You can then look at the overall timeline and compare when those knocks occurred to what the engine was doing in terms of RPM, airflow, fuel, timing, etc.

Datalogging is a great method to know more about your car. It's how I tuned/programmed my 66 GMC after I installed a 90's Corvette fuel injection system into it.

I would add in throttle position sensor, fuel rail PSI, and fuel pump duty cycle. Give you an idea for how much headroom you have.

Well it's over my head.

I have over 500 paramters I can log. I can't figure out what is what. They show up with kinda cryptic looking names. A lot of it I have no idea WTF it is. There are some that seem a little familiar but I'm still unsure if I'm looking at the right thing or not.

Kinda sucks because I can't seem to bring up the paramters in livelink unless the tuner is plugged into the car. It would be nice to save a list of the things for reference later but it doesn't seem to let you. Guess they expect you to know what you're doing lol

yeah, because the tuner works on multiple cars, it has to see what your computer is monitoring so it can display them.

Ever seen Star Trek? you know who Data is? think like him when your setting up what your going to monitor. You need to think of the most professional sounding name is for the sub system your looking at, then expand that and see what sounds closest to what your looking for in the list. The first couple times I did it, half the parameters I selected didnt give me any usable data. Dont feel bad, its your tuner just keep playing till you get what you want.

I discovered you can enter the strategy code manually and get a list of signals to choose that way without the tuner plugged in to the car. Down side is that there are more that show up when you do it this way. Apparently the "extras" are not supported.

I should've prepared better for this. I got into the car and thought I could just punch a few buttons and take right off. Woops!

The cable takes about 3 minutes to make, its just a FIRE WIRE cable mainly used by Apple, you can purchase one for a couple of dollars on EBAY..

My tuner sent me a file to set the parameters that he needed.

First i had to flash my computer to clear the adaptives, then He had me start the car and let it warm up and then rev the motor from idle to 5000 rpm over a 20 second period and the other log was a strong pull in a high gear(3rd) from 1000 rpm to the rev limiter for the second log.

Gonna take me longer than 3 minutes to make the cable. Never done it before and I have no documentation or diagrams to work off. I don't have a tuner to send me a file to pre-load the parameters to monitor.

If anyone here has a TJF1 pcm code and knows exactly what submenu and parameters I need to select in the livelink software I would be very grateful. Otherwise I'll have to screw with it.

Want to log:
rpm
timing
injector duty cycle
maf airflow
throttle pedal position sensor
knock retard
fuel pump duty cycle
