Friction Modifer?

Did mine today. Left the cover on and sucked out a little over a quart, it was empty, put 2 quarts back in. I seem to remember hearing that some came half full from the factory? Is this correct?

You are correct.
Filled way too low as per the spec.
The current updated spec is just below the fill plug.
Let me help a newbie out...

Do you think it hurt anything being that low for 49,000 miles?

You can try RP and skip on the friction modifier. But when you rear end starts to groan on low-speed turns, you'll know you need to add friction modifier. Been there, tried RP. Ended up needed friction modifier.

But yes, that's only for LSD, which a stock pre-2011 V6 does not have.
