Default Help Me Fix This (Please)

I picked up my buddy and his dog, and while we were driving, his dog stepped on my shifter area and bent it inwards. I can't seem to get it back to the way it is supposed to be. Please help me. Is there a tool or technique I need to be using? Do I need to take the entire unit apart to set it back in place (if so, how?)

Thanks!

FM

PS. The solution to get a manual would be a moot point lol. Help me fix what I have.

I only found one other post through search, and the thread contained the words 'auto shifter boot broken'.. unfortunately no solution in that post. Anyone ever have this problem?

That must be some hug dog!

Does the silver 'plate' come off via that round thing on the right of it? I'm imagining that you should be able to correct it by removing that and some other things.

Here's a link to one on ebay with some pretty good pictures.
It should come apart and you should be able to replace that piece.

If you end up needing a new shifter, I've got one for sale, man. Shoot me a PM if you'd like.

The dog was really no larger than a big cat lol, she just planted all her weight on her pudgy little feet and jammed the shifter plastic out of its housing. I think by trying to pull it up and reset it I may have chewed up the teeth too much. Did Ford really design a shifter like this where I need to buy a new one, or is it a matter of simply buying that weird zipper piece and swapping them out? Of course I will hit my buddy up for that TCI one if all else fails haha, at least try to get him to cover half.

Has no one ever had this happen?
