Default Tapping/Clacking noise underneath - 2010

Gonna bring my 2010 GT in for some other issues and figure I might get them to look at everything I can think of.

I have noticed that if my windows are down, and I am driving alongside something (parked cars, a fence, brick wall, etc.) and I get on the throttle some I hear this tapping, clicking type of noise eminating from underneath the car in the area of the tranny.

It seems most prominent in 2nd gear, which also happens to be the gear that is the "notchiest" on the car, especially when its cold. Sometimes there is almost a grind going into second when the tranny is cold.

Any ideas? I have a feeling this is going to be hard to explain as they are not likely to take the car and get on the throttle with the windows down along side something that will reflect the noise back to the tech. Heck, part of me doesnt want them to, lol.

The TR3650 5 speed transmission has been making ticking, grinding, banging, and notchy shifting when cold since it was installed in the mustang some 8-10 years ago. Tremic and ford keep saying that they have updated it and they may have in some way. My 2008 GT/CS will not shift into second under 40 degrees outside unless I double clutch or just go to 3rd for a few miles till there is heat in the trans. I love the Mustang therefore I just learn to live with it. I bought some royal purple trans fluid but haven’t put it in yet. It is supposed to make cold shifting better. I wouldn't worry about the noise. Good Luck.

I will sometimes get a tiny pebble stuck in the tread of my tires that will tick as I drive, and it is especially noticeable when traveling beside a wall or barrier on the highway. Check you tires.
