Default was pypes a bad decision? are all aftermarket exhausts like these?

in december of '09 i bought some pype's muffler deletes for my car. i love the way they sound, much better sound then stock. well in october of '09 i was rear ended by somebody on i-35, and the guy never pulled over to exchange information. after being rear ended, there was always a rattling sound at the rear of my car. anyways, i had the md's installed on my car before i found out that my rear impact bar had been completely crushed. car went into surgery, came out fine, md's were installed once again, and the rattling sound was still there, coming from the right muffler. its gotten to the point that i always hesitate when i drive just to try and avoid that rattling sound, its really started bugging me. what should i do? i go back to school on sunday, probably wont be back to houston until march. should i have my stock mufflers reinstalled? i have no idea what this rattling is. everybody i've asked at the ford dealership says "there doesn't seem to be a problem with the exhaust." and i've gotten tired of hearing that. i've nudged the right muffler with my foot a couple of times, and it just sounds like metal on metal, the left doesn't sound like that at all, and after a year of owning the exhaust rust has already started to accumulate around the brackets that keep the tips on the pipes. i have no idea what to do, the exhaust never vibrated when i first got it. however, when i did nudge the left exhaust tip, the right one did vibrate a bit. is it just my car?

I wouldn't base your evaluation of a muffler over it's ability to survive an impact with another car.

Don't put too much weight in what the ford dealership says. If you can hear the rattling coming from inside the muffler, but not the other one, what more do you need to know?

If you have muffler deletes the you should have just straight pipes coming off the mid pipe correct? Cant you just look inside the pipe to see if anything is loose? If not why not just get new MD's? Are they that expensive?

so since u got rear ended your muffler rattles?? If so i wouldn't say that they aren't a good muffler....i would say they aren't meant to last through an accident.

Since you ruled out the one side, get under and begin looking around. Even non-accident Stangs have been plagued with various exhaust system rattles; typically the hanger touching a body or frame member. If you can push it with your foot(????) and hear metal-to-metal, it shouldn't be hard to find (unless you're DIY repair phobic...).

when i got rear ended i had the stock exhaust on, it started rattling a bit soon after. had the md's installed after that, rattled still. got the rear impact bar replaced, and the rattling still continued.

NOLA26: yes the straight pipes come straight off the midpipe. i paid 245 for my md's, and i honestly wouldn't want to pay that much again to have them continue to rattle.

Nuke: i meant lightly tapping on the underside of my exhaust tip, i can hear a metal on metal sound, just use the toe of my shoe to do that.

Chris IA: it seems to rattle at around 2-3k, sometimes crusing speed in 5th gear, or when i down shift it'll rattle. i've thought about buying a new exhaust, but have been reconsidering mainly due to having it rattle on the new exhaust. i almost want to drive with no exhaust now, it'd look stupid as hell though
