is bbk cai good for 17hp?
Think about the "no tune change required" CAI - what does that statement tell us?
That we are still running the stock tune, and therefore didn't change anything.
If we didn't change anything other than adding a "pretty" intake tube, then how can we get a 17RWHP and 17 torque gain? The car is still running just like it did before adding the nicer looking intake tube.
So yeah, marketing hype, just like the guys trying to sell you on the throttle body spacer and claiming you will get 10RWHP and improved throttle response. They just need to find the right words to separate you from your money.

My diablo has the preloaded tunes, (ill have to look again, but i think its a 95mm throttle body tune) and there is a pulley tune also. When I install this intake would it be better for me to run the 95mm tb tune? right now I am running the 93 performance tune.

If you're not throwing a CEL than that's about the best you can do with the canned tunes. You'll pick up more gains with custom tunes; an 87 custom tune may very well out perform that canned 93 tune.
I was under the impression that just about all CAI kits come with a tune, being that they are virtually useless without a tune anyway.
I thought the only CAI kits that do not come with a tune are the really cheap one, the ones that cost like $150.

The stock airbox is good to over 450 hp before it becomes a restriction. The plenum is the restriction. I put in a drop in amsoil air filter and pulled off the silencer which opens up the cold side of the intake and tada. Free cai. But they sure look nice

Too bad that free CAI won't add squat without a tune other than possibly throw a CEL. The PCM cannot adjust for that much additional airflow.

probably not realistically your only really going to get 5-10 the most without a tune. bbk and k&n are good if you are not interested in purchasing a tuner because some CAI they stay with in the stock tune parameters so your not going to have a problem. if your looking for something more then your going to have to get something that requires a tune like a ford racing CAI. CAIs that require a tune go outside the stock tune parameters so its the reason why you need the tune in the first place by using a tune you can get it up to about 15-20 hp like everyone said
there are plenty of tuners out there but make sure you get it right for your car american muscles has a couple from sct and you get tunes right then and there diablo is always good as mentioned its preference too I lean towards sct

About 15 RWHP is what you may get from some canned tunes or the FRPP tune. 20-25 RWHP is more like it for your 2008 with the better custom tunes. AM and Brenspeed write better tunes than the canned crap that SCT and Diablo load directly into the handheld.
