Default Thinking about buying one...

Hello everybody, I am new to this forum. I am seriously considering buying a 2005 Mustang GT, but I have a few questions before I do...

Whats the differences between the '05 and '06?

What are some common problems with the new Mustangs?

How are they on long drives?

Thats all I can think of for now. The rest I can find out by going and looking at one at a dealership. Thanks.

Mike

From everything I've read, the only difference for the 06 GT is a new 18" wheel option and a couple of new paint colors. I don't feel like I missed anything by getting my 05 instead of waiting for the 06.

I've only been on one short road-trip, about 90 minutes each way, mostly interstate, and it was just fine. I set the cruise control at 80 and I think I sensed the car yawning from boredom I will say I wouldn't want to stuff any passengers in the back for a long trip unless it was kids. I can't imagine its comfortable back there for hours at a time.

No mechanical issue on mine yet, but I've got just barely over 1000 miles on the odo.

Hey man... don't think about it.. DO IT!

You will NOT be sorry.

This car is GREAT!... it is even greater considering the price.

THIS coming from a guy that switched out of a BMW 325CiS Convertible.. and before that I had an Audi A6 Quatro.

The 05/06 Mustang is FUN... all the time!... Short trips and Long trips.

Difference between 05 and 06.... Wheel options and a couple of new colors and the price is a little bit higher. That is IT!

Problems... most of them have been ironed out.. but the most common are:
Gas Tank Filling Issue
Shaker 1000 Skipping on CD's
A few with Manual Tranmission and Rear end problems.
Girls smiling at you all the time.
The want to step on the Go Peddle a little too often.

For the most part, these are pretty solid cars.

I've driven mine on a few 200 mile trips and the car is a DREAM on the highway. I've also taken it on some pretty hairy curvy roads and it is a BLAST on those.

Thanks guys! I have thought up a couple of other quick questions...

Whats the difference between Premium GT and the Delux GT besides $1000.00?

What do the GTs run in the 1/4 mile stock?

What is the stock RWHP for the 5 speed manual?

Thanks again!

I find the car to be pretty comfortable. I've taken her from NY to DC and back and I thought it was fine (though you'll want to take out your wallet.) One great thing about the mustang - it can make a long drive into a short drive.

As far as problems go, I've read alot about people having trouble with the gas tank and the Shaker stereo, but thankfully I have been spared these annoyances.

Seriously though, I'm taking mine up to Montreal this weekend which is somewhere in the neighboorhood of 350 miles. I'll let you know how it goes.

Premium has leather seats (optional on Deluxe)
Premium comes standard with Shaker 500 audio (6-cd in-dash mp3), Deluxe standard is am/fm single cd. Deluxe can add Shaker 500, both can add Shaker 100.

That's what you get for $1000

As seperate options on the Deluxe, the leather seats and Shaker list for $695 and $665 respectively ($1360 total).

Not a bad deal

Huff, how did you do your satellite? New head-unit or through the AUX input on the Shaker?

The boys before me have pretty much covered most of your questions. As for how she does on long trips....GREAT ! We picked up ours in Denver and drove to the Phoenix area the first weekend we owned it. The seats are comfy and the ride is smooth. Our 3 year old daughter rode in the back seat and did as well as you could expect a kid on a long trip. One good thing is that the center console has a power port that we plugged a DVD player into and had movies in the back the whole way.
Who needs a stinkin' minivan?? Not this mama !!
