Default Who would like to help an older lady?

Well my fathers friends mother, yes an older woman lol, is having problems with her 07 GT. She has an auto and is saying her car will not go into park and she cannot get the key out. She has a garage to keep it in so she doesnt worry about the key being in it, but the car goes into every gear except park. I asked the same question on why she doesnt just call ford to tow it in, but she is out of warranty and knows they will charge her a ton even if its a simple little fix. Any suggestions on what it can be so maybe I can go there and take car of it for her?

Ask and make sure she pressed the brake before trying to put it in park

I had a problem with that on on older car and it ended up being a cable from the shifter to the ignition. Mine was a simple fix because the cable had to be oiled and also make sure it doesn't have a sharp angle. This will cause the wire to have to much friction. You can also google the problem and will notice that other people probable had same issue. Hope this helps.

I wonder if a bad brake sensor/switch could cause this. If the shifter opens the gate for park based on the brake being depressed, and the sensor saying the brake is being depressed isn't working, then it could be an issue. Do her brake lights work still? That's assuming they are based on the same switch . . . which they may not be.

Alright thanks for all the help, I think she is just better off bringing the car in. It is driveable, she just cant put it into park and take the key out. I wouldnt know where to start with all the electronics on these cars.

If it starts in neutral it may not be that brake solenoid.

She said the car is 100% drivable so I am not sure what it can be. I have heard stories about it happening to chargers, and all you have to do is stick a screw driver somewhere under the shifter trim.

It's worth giving it a try....the bezel pops off easily.
