Question New 2011 GT 5.0 Manual

Tried to ask this in the street/strip section and got a message I could post there?
Been a while since I've had a performance car with a 6 speed manual.
I would like to know how to light the tires up without moving?
Thanks in advance,
Jim in Sequim

Burnout? No difference between a 5 or 6-speed.

Basically the idea is that you're hitting the gas and brakes at the same time, but the engine is going to over power the rear brakes which then lets you spin your tires while not moving forward. Key is to press the brakes just hard enough to not start moving, but not so hard that you keep the wheels from spinning.

60 watt bulb should be enough but just in case you might want to use a couple of 100 watt'ers !........

That 5.0 has enough power to just drop the hammer without having to use the brakes. Shift it quick into second to keep it going. It's wheel speed, not RPM of the motor that keeps those wheels going.

Smartass! But I have to admit that I did get a chuckle out of this!

I never did a long burnout, probably about a second at most, but I got a standing burnout just by turning off traction control and stomping on it in 1st gear. Lots of noise and rubber flying, but I didn't go forward at all.

A linelock would be the preferred way but like others said...the 5L is a high revver, drop the clutch at 6k rpm and hold on. Should be good for a second gear burnout on street tires.

But break that puppy in first. I wouldn't start beating on it till I had at least about 5k miles on the car.

5k seems a little extreme to me...most people rate break in at around 500 to 1k miles.
