Default Catalytic converter question.

I've got a TERRIBLE rattle coming from my converters, I have a Bassani X pipe with converters, not sure if they came with X pipe or added. I recently bought the car. My question is, if I remove the converters will the car still run good? I know the CEL will come on, it does NOT have a tune in it yet. I plan on getting a custom tune very soon, I already have LT headers and get the light on occasionally. They are rattling SO bad I need to get them off cause the car sounds like s--t! Should I not drive it & wait for a tune or can I remove them now & get my tune in a couple weeks?? Thanks for any help.

You're going to need a pipe to fill the section in that will be missing once you take the Cats out.

Actually, I was gonna just cut & empty out the contents of the converters since it's already loose, either way, I just need to know how the car will react to it. I been reading other threads & I saw that even with a tune, they are not allowed to turn rear o2 sensors off. So what then?? Should I just replace the converters with new ones?? I have no emissions testing in Ky. I just want to do what's best for the car.

Are those the round, metallic type that come with the 'modular' type x? Just wondering because I was considering spending $600 for that x-pipe and if the cats are going to rattle with age I'm not paying $600 for it!

If it IS the modular type it would be easy to swap out the cats with a piece of 2.5'' pipe. Any exhaust shop could do it.

Those cats are $160 a piece so buying news ones would be expensive. No cats are really cheap though..

Yep, they are round & very small, it looks like someone in the past beat them on the front with a hammer, probably to remove the X pipe, it did have some tranny work done. I think that's why they rattle. I know it will be much cheaper, easier & probably better running to take them off ( or empty them out). I just want to know how it's gonna run without a tune, & how a tune will change it.

I am going to be honest, I would buy an offroad x pipe and get a custom tune. I really dont think its good to be running the car with LT's and no tune. It has to be running really lean right now, so I wouldnt do anything until you get a tune.

Might have a read through this. In certain areas, it's mandated that specific emissions components must be covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles by the manufacturer.

I figured that. I only drive it maybe once a week anyway. I'm pretty sure the previous owner had a tune in it & took it out before he sold it. I was just curious because some say it will be super loud with out converters with my setup. So I'm just trying to figure it out before I order the tune.

Thanks Siggy, but first, they aren't factory installed. second, they have been abused (beat with a hammer). I knew when I bought it I would have to get a tune, but at the time, I didn't hear any rattle, it's getting worse now, just trying to figure out what route to go with it.
