Default Beltronics V955 Radar Detector

I just found one on craigslist for $100 but she said she would take $80 for it. Reviews online have been pretty good so far. What are yall's thoughts on it? I know there are much better ones out there but I figured this was a pretty good deal considering Amazon.com has them for like 130 used. I dont know much about radar detectors but I pretty much just want it as a buffer. I don't do any serious speeding, but i've got a tendancy to wind up 10 over the speed limit on my way to and from college...and every now and then my testosterone takes over lol. I'm not reckless by any means though

i stopped using them many years ago. i usually keep it around 10 over myself and haven't gotten in trouble for it. except for that jerk dps trooper who clocked me at 79 in a 70 on that stretch of highway 77 from refugio to victoria. and that was in the family wagon with the whole pod in the car with me. what an a$$hat.

I can't speak for the specific model but one of my friends had a Beltronics that got us out of a lot of trouble. Seems like a decent brand

Beltronics and Escort are one and the same the past 1/2 dozen years or so and are decent products. I can't recall what the test results were for that model but you can check here http://www.guysoflidar.com/index.html It's certainly better than 90% of any Cobra or Whistler.

I have the STi Driver and it has saved my butt many times. 99% of my driving is no more than 5 above the PSL unless I'm on a 200 mile trip or more where a little faster makes more of a differencce then if you're only traveling, say, 60 miles. Being an engineer, I like gadgets and I like to know where the "PO-lease" are.

Depending on the age of the unit, it may need to be re-tuned and/or a software upgrade. I'd verify that it has the OE serial number and then decide if you're willing to take a chance. New, you can get one here for $157:

You really can't go wrong with Beltronics/Escort, or Valentine. I'll never drive without my V1 again that thing's saved my a$$ countless times. A quality radar detector is a must for anyone who wants to drive even a little bit fast.

Today I was driving home and I spotted a cop pulled over and pointing his radar gun. I seriously doubt he had it on because my radar detector didn't go off.

If it was handheld AND your RD didn't go off, it either was IO (Instant On) and he was waiting for a particular vehicle OR it was laser; most likely the later since you rarely see LEO's with handheld radar. Typically, radar guns are vehicle mounted and anytime I've picked up a laser alert, the LEO had the laser gun handheld.

beltronics, valentine, escort--- these are one of the three to buy if you're serious about a dependable machine that will cover your rear at all times. I've tried Cobra (awful) and I've read some terrible reviews on Whistlers. Now I layed down 300 bucks and got the Escort Passport 8500x50 after getting my last ticket. I'll go 5 over everywhere I go and sometimes it's more around 10ish on the highway and I've been astonished at the range of this thing!

I just like to know where the po-lice are and I refuse to get another ticket for going 10 over in almost non existent traffic because the **** highway patrol looks at my car and thinks I'm irresponsible. Never again!

You are probably right. He seemed to be shooting his laser at a particular car, but I though my RD would have went off. I have heard that sometimes CHP will just act like the shooting their RG just to watch drivers put on their brakes.

The California HWP uses the laser gun on the highway.
