Oil question
Well, the 11 GT OCI is 10,000 mi. I personally am not comfortable with this and will most likely be changing it every 5k at the most with a little bit of a buffer for being lazy. I am also a firm believer that Synthetic is better than conventional so I will use Synthetic.
If I may ask, why do you not recommend Lucas Synthetic? It is 100% Synthetic.

But most of the folks I have talked to who use the Ford (Motorcraft) synth oils say they tend to change theirs every 7.5K miles.
Now, for true full synth (which Motorcraft is not, even their full synth blend is not a 100% true synth)the oils mentioned above are what I would go for for 10K+ mile OCIs: Royal Purple and AMSOil are such oils.
I have heard of people going as long as 15K miles and the oils still has not broken down then when they change it.

Present day:
8k-10k mile oil changes on my GT with Amsoil 0W-20 ASM oil and Ea oil filter.
5k-6k mile oil changes on the g/f's Pony with Motorcraft Blend and OE filter.
8k-10k mile oil changes on my tow vehicle with M1 oil & filter.
Old school:
8k-10k mile oil changes on my previous tow vehicles with M1 oil & filter.
3k-4k mile oil changes on about 12 other vehicles using most any name brand dino and filter.
I've had excellent results using these frequencies on many 200,000+ mile vehicles.

As for the interval, I would not even consider 10k miles. We actually talked about this today at work, and my buddy said that the interval like many other numbers on cars are under perfect theoretical conditions. Most drivers tend to go through shorter milage stop-and-go trips, which heavily increases on the wear and tear of your vehicle. I would say that 5k is about the max I would go realistically. But I do mine with full synthetic at just under 3k miles ( granted I also get to do it free as long as my manager isn't in the shop. ;p)
But I do agree that the oil change interval is expanding higher and higher. I believe that all 2011+ GM vehicles actually REQUIRE at least a semi-synthetic oil now or your warranty gets voided. This higher quality oil means you can run it for longer than just the standard conventional. We also talked today about how a BMW came in for it's first oil change at 20k miles which is plausible since they take 8 quarts and require full synthetic.
TL;DR version:
I personally wouldn't go 10k miles, but 3-5k is easily acceptable.

You say that a 10,000 mile change interval in a 2011 Mustang GT with a 8 quart sump is unacceptable, but the BMW that came in with 20,000 miles on one oil change was OK because it also has an 8 quart sump.
and people wonder why I change my own oil.
Seriously people, the new 2011 5.0 is more than capable of a 10,000 mile oil change even with syn/blend oil. This is due to the extra 2 quarts capacity in the oil. Although, if it were me, I would do a 15,000 mile interval with this oil, as I have done so many times in the past.
Amsoil SSO 0W-30
and I even gained effiecieny by using an oil heavier than 5W-20.

You can't be serious.............to the OP, do not pay attention to this nonesense.
For the record gents there is another reason besides improved oil that we are seeing longer drain intervals..........namely the improvements with fuel injection / fuel management, better piston/ring/cyl specifications all of which lessens raw gas and combustion 'blow by' that years ago so quickly contaminated our oil.
I've been using Amsoil since before most of you were probably born (1976) and I change my oil once a year (10-20k) in all my vehicles and while I've never owned a vehicle once past 100k, my '93 Chevy Silverado is still performing flawlessly in my buddys possession with over 270k on the clock !
