Rubber Door Grip
105,000 miles of closing the door via the window and they still work.
Not that I don't feel your pain... the depression behind the passenger side handle is full of scratches from people's fingernails. I've thought about buffing them out and then putting some of that clear 3M film back there.
Personally I think any kind of grip would look cheesy.

Well, if I can find a picture of the material I'm thinking of using, I'll do a photoshop (or at least attempt to - I have never grafted one image onto another)
Since my car is nearly black, it wouldn't clash

Unless you're taking random peeps for a ride, I think your friends will understand once you tell them once how you want to close the door. I rarely ever close the door by the window, if I did, was by accident.. don't ask.
Don't put some weird rubber thing on your car man. Just try to remember to tell them not to, and if they do, don't worry about it too much. They'd have to be trying to hurt your car to do any damage anyway.
