Default Mid mounted flowmasters?

I know some people have mid mounted flowmasters but I have only found 3 videos, 2 with cats on and one with them off but only at idle. I was wondering if anyone else has done this with videos. I loved the flowmaster sound on the older v8 stangs, and when I finally got a v8 I wanted that sound and bought the flowmaster cat back and it sounds awful, nothing like what I wanted. It sounds ok reving it but with a load on the engine it hits 2400rpm and gets a very loud raspy sound without that hollow flowmaster sound to it. I am hoping that mid mounting some 40's will sound like the older cars but I am afraid to start cutting up my exhuast system and then find out it sounds the same.

even if it is the same sound you would cut a reasonable amount of weight from the car! which isnt such a bad idea really!

I don't have any advice for the mid mount flomasters, but have you looked around for a different axle back to see if it is the sound your looking for? I have FRPP stingers and love them.

you will not make a s197 sound like a New Edge or a Fox body.
it just wont happen.
mid mounting will make it sound better, but it still wont sound like the earlier Mustangs.
this one is about the best sounding flowmaster s197 that i have heard on youtube.

Mid mounting will create clearance issues on these cars...
I've done it a while back for a customer that remove the saddle gas tank and put a cell in the trunk.
It worked great because we had now the room to tuck them where the OEM tank was, thus solving the clearance issues (still was a tight fit).
It sounded great but still, never like a pushrod or a 2/4 valve OHC mill and I don't think you wanna go to that extreme with your car.

This 3 valve deal on those late V8s, makes it impossible for old school sound.

I have magnaflows and before I added the cams, O/R pipe, and Long tubes, it sounded pretty good...mellow yet muscular

im not sure which flowmasters you talking about (size, fitment issues etc) but i had 2 14" magnapacks midmounted on my s197 before with no clearance issues.

i would just like to point out that the drone is very bad with the mufflers midmounted. i had mine moved back behind the axle because of that. it still drones, but not as bad. can't even hear the drone cruising at 70 mph anymore.

and heres something else i noticed. the exhaust actually sounded better with the mufflers back behind the axle then they did when mid mounted.

granted these were magnaflow magnapack mufflers but its food for thought. just something to consider before you have the work done.

the sound you are hearing is resonence, dont know how to spell it, i hate it on ours with the flowmasters out back, supposedly, and i havent tried this yet, is to get two resonators put in up under the car like the pipes m90's i think is the correct part number.

I guess I was thinking that having more piping after the mufflers would help hollow out the sound of the mufflers to make it more like the sn95's, one thing I don't understand is what is the thing that makes the 3v's so much different than the previous 2v's and 4v's is it the VVT? I know the 3v's are still odd firing engines so I guess I just assumed it would sound like the previous engines given the same exhaust.

I think this exhaust sounds pretty good, its a 3v in the older car, dunno what exhaust hes got on it but im sure the mufflers are in the middle, kinda sounds like flowmaster to me.
