The 4300DVD is the same, with the motorized screen coming down to put in the SD card and the CD/DVD.

To each his own. I don't really use the CD slot very much, and it definitely wasn't worth sacrificing a half inch of screen size to get it on the front for me, but I understand the other side of that as well.

I also have a manual and did not like the idea of that thing sticking out so close to my shifter when it was moving.
They are VERY nice units though!
The screen size was not that big of an issue for me.
The 3300 had a screen that was plenty big for me but I dont watch DVD's on mine.

10 - 15 seconds sounds about right (period key isn't working)
Music starts up nearly intantly though, but interface takes about 10 seconds
The sun was a major issue with my old Kenwood, but I haven't even noticed it with my new Pioneer
I have a manual too, and you do have to be careful with the screen, but since it is hardly ever down, and I'm not shifting when it is most of the time, it hasn't been an issue; it doesn't make contact though when the car is in an odd gear, which is nice, you just have to keep ur hand on the back side of the shifter, but again, this is hardly ever an issue
