Great post. I just looked at Radar Roy's LI review and video. Looks like that's the way to go. In my state (SC) laser jammers are illegal (but then again, so is speeding).

I honestly dont care about it being legal or not lol cause neither are my limo tints, o/r x pipe, or speeding itself. I have heard the valentine mentioned in other threads, but I see I need to educate myself before purchasing. I honestly know nothing about them and all this laser talk is like a different language to me.

There are actually fewer and fewer tests lately that the Valentine One comes up on top. I think one of its biggest downsides is the lack of a frequency display, individual signal strength meters, and filtering out false bogeys. That and the fact that it has no ability to be stealth (Escort Redline, which is also rated ABOVE the V1 in nearly every test) and there is no GPS enabled V1 out there made the choice easy for me.

For lidar, a radar detector won't do you any good. As soon as it goes off with a laser hit you're already had. The beam is so narrow you can't pick it up like you can radar. If you get a laser jammer, again you get what you pay for. Do a lot of research. The Laser Interceptor made Radar Roy's motorhome invisible to lidar. If you can hide a motorhome, that's something big I say. On the flipside, if you're in an area that laser jammers are illegal, the cops CAN tell you're using a jammer if it's on and jamming, their guns show a "JTG (Jam To Gun)" readout. So if you use one where it's not allowed it'd be best to see you're getting hit with lidar, slow down, then turn off the jammer. That way the cop can get your legal speed and be less likely to pull you over for using illegal hardware.

Go to Advance Auto Parts...the Bell 955 is the best you can buy for under 200.

I have the Escort Redline, and love it to death. It has such an absurd detection range, I have even picked up patrol cars from nearly a mile away on some occasions. Some days I do wish I had gotten a RD with GPS so I don't get any false alarms. (Redline doesn't have GPS, 9500ix does)

I can't comment on laser detection since puertorrican police is so raggedy broke, they only use conventional Ka 34.7 band radar. Not even Instant-ON; just park in a shade, with the radar on, and wait for any distracted poor sap to pass by.

Haha that's awesome! I think BelScort should really come out with a cross between the 9500ix and the Redline... I would love to have that extra range and stealthiness!

From homework I did, probably one of the better ones under 200 bucks...

http://www.beltronics.com/store/prod...=16202&cat=249

My last speeding ticket was in 1980.. I'd like to keep it that way.. This has saved me for certain one time already in the couple weeks I've had it... Pop and Laser.. you're hosed no matter what, so if you're alone, don't do it.. if you're in a pack of cars, just don't be the fastest guy and you might get lucky...

Detects Po Po on the move very well.. barks well in advance of seeing them...

I've got the Escort Passport 8500 after lengthy research. Usually the most talked about and acclaimed radar detectors are Escorts and Valentines.

I don't go crazy with speeding but I've been known to go anywhere from 5 over to 15 over on long trips.

Tickets before my 8500: 2. Tickets after setting her up: 0. This thing has some incredible straight line range! Picked up a sheriff's deputy at 1.2 miles away sitting in a grass median and that's no joke haha

Valentine1, Beltronics and Escort (but Beltronics and Escorts are made by the same company) are the best. I run the Bel STI-Driver.

RD's are a tool and like any tool, must be used properly to be effective. You still have to use your head and eyes. There's little to no defense for IO (Instant On) and laser. If you're the only car on the road and speeding your begging to get caught. If I feel the need to speed (usually during a 4 hour trip or more) I always use a rabbit and hang back about 1/4-1/2 mile. If you can't do that due to traffic then you have no need to be speeding. Speeding is absolutely useless you're putting at least 200-300 miles on the clock. I always hear of some jackazz blaming his RD for him getting a ticket.

If anything, my driving became MORE conservative once I began using my RD about 3 years ago.
