Default tick tick tick

I have a 05 GT that has 62k miles on it. I got it with 30k on it when I bought it and it was bone stock. I have done the usual things,,headers, offroad, flowmasters, cold air etc.. Never had a problem ever until the other day. I am riding down the road and hear a sound that is like a lifter ticking from a pushrod motor. A friend of mine is a 20plus year ford tech and he says it is a cam phaser. Oh great. Always used synthetic oil, not hard on the car and now this. Anybody else had this problem. I am looking at a lot or work and a fair amount of cash to fix this problem.

Sorry to hear about this. I can't say that I've had this problem, the only ticking I've ever heard (knock on wood) is when I had a rock stuck in my tire tread...that will trick you everytime haha

The S197's are notorious for injector clicking. There's even a TSB on it but the TSB calls it normal and will only recommend repair if it's very, VERY excessive. I'd rule that out before beginning other, more expensive repairs.

Hello,

That must be aggravating! I recommend visiting your local dealer to have your Mustang diagnosed. They are in the best position to determine the cause of your ticking and recommend solutions. You can locate the closest one here. Please let me know if I can help with anything!

Mine does the same thing, and its done that since the day I got it if I remember right. She still runs strong. I am going to have it looked at at the end of the month when I take it to the dealer for a once over. I might try to post a video of the engine noise, and then you can compare it and see if that's what you have. Maybe someone with more extensive knowledge can then say whether it needs to be looked at?

Here's the link. It should work. Like I said I think its normal, and mine as far as I can remember has done this since day one. Does anyone think this should be checked out by a shop or is it fairly normal. Doesn't seem too excessive to me.

Injectors.

Yours is whisper quiet compared to mine.

Mine sounds like a diesel.

Totally normal.

I would concur that this is normal and its due to abnormally loud injectors. There is a TSB on this I believe.

Excellent.

Thanks for the opinions folks. I can remove that from my paranoia induced list of things that I think might be wrong.
